Kentmere House Gallery artists in the news

David Greenwood has been invited by the National Trust to lead painting workshops at East Riddlesden Hall near Keighley. The resulting work will then go on show at the Hall. This is part of the celebration of 75 years of National Trust ownership at East Riddlesden.

Jake Attree will be showing at Huddersfield Art Gallery in February 2010.

Susan Bower will be showing at a prestigious gallery on the Isle of Wight in the spring, as well as in London and Cornwall.

Gallery programme for 2010, at Kentmere House and other locations

In addition to a packed exhibition programme at the gallery itself, there are a number of exciting events & exhibitions being organised by Kentmere House Gallery in other locations.

February’s exhibition is the first for 3 years for David Fowkes, & a major event for him in his 90th year. See details in Current exhibitions.

In March there will be an exhibition of Dorothy Bradford’s work at the Manor House Gallery in Ilkley, organised by Kentmere House Gallery. Dorothy lived in Ilkley in the 1970s & was instrumental in the setting up of the gallery within the Manor House Museum, a beautiful first- floor space. Her fluid and apparently-effortless drawings of dancers & musicians are currently known only to an appreciative few, but are about to reach a wider audience.

Later in the year a very exciting & pioneering collaboration with a major historic house in York will show how contemporary paintings can enhance an historic interior, & demonstrate that ‘contemporary’ need not mean pickled sheep.

In the autumn there will be another collaboration with Yorkshire garden owners who are part of the National Gardens Scheme. Louis Turpin, along with other nationally-acclaimed garden painters, will be working in Yorkshire again this year, for a spectacular show at the gallery.

Other artists showing during the year will include Ann Kilvington, a little-known but wonderfully talented artist living in North Yorkshire, new work from the studio of Jack Hellewell, further evidence of the development of John Thornton’s work, & an increased emphasis on printmaking. Also, for the first time, we will be showing Andrew Cheethams’ paintings. Andrew has recently completed an Arts Council residency in Rosedale, North Yorkshire, and was previously artist-in-residence at Knaresborough Castle and at Scarborough Harbour.

You can use the Arts Council's 'Own Art' scheme to purchase the work of these artists, spreading the cost over 10 months with no interest, no deposit and no charges.
